After I become a CRM, how do I then become a PSS-AD?
Here are the next steps:
As you become certified as a CRM, we expect that with a few individual exceptions* you will automatically then also become certified as a PSS-AD. Here is how (subject to change) it works:
1. MHACBO will add your name as a CRM to the MHACBO Registry online.
2. MHACBO will automatically send your info to the OHA THW Program.
3. MHACBO will send you a beautiful, frame-worthy CRM Certificate to hang in your workplace office, so all will know you are professionally certified. This often takes a week to receive in the mail. SAVE a copy with your important documents and submit a copy to your agency.
Then:
4. The OHA THW Program should honor your CRM application and certification as your application for PSS-AD, and so consider you eligible for the PSS-AD certification.
5. The OHA THW Program, for this purpose only, will skip their usual DHS background check and instead honor the briefer background check of MHACBO.
6. The OHA THW Program will add your name to Oregon’s THW Registry online.
7. The OHA THW Program will send you a brief email stating you are now on the TWH Registry. This often takes weeks or months. SAVE a copy and submit a copy to your agency.
8. Here the State of Oregon explains *exceptions https://www.oregon.gov/oha/OEI/Pages/How-to-Become-a-THW.aspx)
9. If you do NOT identify as one in recovery and so did NOT apply to b a CRM through MHACBO, here the State of Oregon explains their usual process to become a PSS: https://www.oregon.gov/oha/OEI/Pages/How-to-Become-a-THW.aspx)
Does your boss now need you to obtain an NPI number?
1. You may or may not need to obtain an NPI number under your name. An employer agency will tell you if they need you to do so. An employee’s NPI number may be required for an agency to bill insurance for your professional services.
2. Find your email from OHA THW notifying you that you are a PSS-AD on the OHA THW registry.
3. With your PSS-AD registry number, the help of your boss, and the agency info they may need to supply, apply for your NPI Number at: https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov/#/
4. For detailed instructions, see https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov/assets/How_to_apply_for_an_NPI_online.pdf
beginning on page 16 for “Initial Application for Myself”
5. Submit your NPI number to your agency and SAVE it with your important documents.
6. Update your professional information with NPPES any time your job changes.
