Free Book:  For many years I have taught the course Motivational Interviewing and Addiction.  I believe Motivational Interviewing is a powerful and appropriate approach to use in the Addiction Counseling arena.  I also believe MI is seriously flawed.  The flaw I believe exists in MI involves the concept of Loss of Control.  The only reference to Loss of Control in the original text of MI can be found on pg. 11, “That is, experiences and behaviors that follow ordinary principles of psychology are mistakenly interpreted as special symptoms indicative of unique addictive pathology (e.g. denial, craving, loss of control).  Loss of control refers to use beyond intent, and use despite negative consequences.  It is simply the most important identifying characteristic of addiction.  I wrote a small book to correct what I believe is the major flaw of MI.  The book is available for sale if you want a desk copy.  Please send me a check for $25 and your address and I will mail one to you.  Here I provide you a free electronic copy.
